Cardboard Ketchup - Ice Cold Edition

Continuing the story from Waxaholic, I'll put up highlights from two trade/gift packages... The first is from The Angels In Order. Yeah, I know. Hockey cards from a baseball guy in Texas who roots for the Angels. Go figure. But I'll take 'em. Tom said he could help with my quest to complete the '92/93 UD set, and sent over 22 cards off of my list.
I was wondering what Rob was smiling about,  and then I saw the half naked chick in the background.
for my Vancouver Canuck friends... Kirk McLean. This was the period when goalies still wore leather or 'leather look' pads, but had them colour co-ordinated to their team colours.
a Teemu Selanne Young Gun.... although I thought his rc was earlier..... Hmm.....

The next lot is from Casey of Drop the Gloves fame. We all know Casey is a Bruins fan, but we like him anyways. Although when the first card I saw out of the envelope was a Rene Bourque card, and then another.... I thought I had been Bipped.
But then Chipper appeared, and then the package really took off quality wise....
I saw that some of you recived cards from Casey at the same time and posted cards from the '70/71 Topps set. Casey must've found a shoebox in an attic somewhere, 'cause he sent me some too.

On Right Wing, the Roadrunner, Yvan Cournoyer

on Defence, sorry, I forgot it's American Topps. On Defense, Jacques Laperriere

his Defence Defense partner on the blue line, Terry Harper.
At Center, Ralph Backstrom.
On Left Wing, Pete 'Little M' Mahovlich.
we have a substitution! At Center, Jean Beliveau!

That is one hell of a lineup. If I could trade Backstrom for the Montreal Goalie in this set, Rogie Vachon.... it would be unbeatable.
Ah heck, put Backstrom in net and this lineup would probably still win the Cup.

Thanks for the cards boys!

5 card draw...

As the season winds down, I find myself purchasing less and less. This is a good thing however, as with my newfound energy into organizing and updating my want/set lists, my purchasing has become more focused. And focus is a very good thing.
So now I'm buying cards off of my wantlists! Imagine! Buying cards you actually need. Or I'm buying cards for my player collections.
Nice. Yay me. Somebody be proud of me. My wife has yet to recognize my greatness. Despite me trying to explain it to her several times. Go figure.

Anyways, you didn't come here to listen to me ramble about spiritual cardenlightenment. And yes, that IS a word. You came here for pictures.

Here ya go.
This Young Gun from UD Series 2 was not priced when I first arrived at this particular table. Nor was any other card. They said they were just starting on pricing. I said I`d be back.
So I come back in a few minutes and every card on the table, except Mr St Denis is priced. Nice. We laugh, I move along.
I come back again. $6. I laugh.
10 minutes go by and I`m back again. $8.... *sigh*...
another 10 minutes and it`s priced at $5. By now everyone is laughing before I can even get close to the table.... but she says, "You know it`s yours for $3."

Good times when banter becomes a feature at the local card show.

Moving on to less painfull or at least, quicker purchases.

$1 got me a new Carey Price.

and I debated over the next purchase. He's not on any of my lists nor a player collection of mine. He's not even a player. But for $2, I nabbed an on card auto of one of Canada's greatest Olympic athletes.
Gaetan Boucher. Gaetan scored four Olympic medals including two gold, was a World Champion and set two world records.

Back to my adding more to my pc, from the same $2 box I added this dual relic Andrei Markov /125.
That very same night, Andrei played his first game back from injury in two years. After watching him that game, as well as in tonight's game, I see he is back and well worth the 5 mil he's signed for next year. Stay Healthy my friend. We need you.

The final card I'm showing you came to me for $5. A brand new shiny card of a vintage player who retired 32 years ago.
A game used Yvan Cournoyer. Normally these cards of retro players are all event worn pieces. But not this one. That, combined with the player choice, and that the swatch is torn = had to have it.

Focus. I like it.

Auctions aplenty... where's my chequebook???

with the ever increasing popularity of sports memorablilia, there is an equal increase in the amount of sports memorabilia auctions. Two item in particular have piqued my interest this month.

The first, Rogie vachon's game used mask from his days with the L.A. Kings. Auction LINK The mask, seen here
is only $6500 at the time of this writing with 26 days left in the auction. I'm sure the wife wouldn't mind if I sold her car....

The next item I have to have is a true one of one. You may remember back in June, a Paul Henderson jersey that he wore when he scored the winning goal in the 1972 Summit Series sold for $1,272,707.00 Amazing money for a game used jersey. Seen here in one of the most iconic and recognizable hockey/sports photos in history.
Well, the guy who passed him the puck, was Yvan Cournoyer. #12 in white. And now, Yvan's jersey from that game is being put on the block. Who knows how high this will go. I'm sure my wife wouldn't mind me selling the house, right? Yvan's red jersey that he wore in an earlier game of the series sold in March for $20,000.... but this is the white one. The one in the photo... the one in our memories with Foster Hewitt's voice ringing in our ears...

You ever see a player go after a referee with his stick before???
