Freebies. Swag. Booty. Plunder. Loot.
It all means the same, and it's all good. Here's a quick post to show off three new additions to my collection that were given to me free of charge.
The first one arrived in the mail from a fellow blogger. This and some baseball cards came from Casey at Drop the Gloves. (we won't comment on the Messier card that was included.... yuck.)
One of the corners is dinged up pretty good.... probably from Casey throwing it across the room when he pulled it.
No matter, it fits in quite well into my Odelein/Nilan binder.
Trade night at one of the local shops got me two more gifts. (Well, three, but the other one is baseball related.)
I thought about showing these off with the cards I traded for as well, but generosity deserves it's own post.
I had brought a couple of gifts myself for two collectors who I knew would be there. As fate would have it, one of them had this for me....
I learned something from it. I had always known Dave Hanson had played for the Minnesota North Stars.... but I thought that was it. I found out via reading the back of this card that Dave originally played 11 games with Detroit before being traded to Minnesota for futures. Hell if I can find what the futures turned into.
Dave played 22 games for the North Stars, scoring one goal and one assist before retiring.
For those who need to know, Dave played in the NHL for 33 games, 1G 1A and 65 PIMS. In the WHA he played 103 games with 13 goals, 40 assists and 497 PIMS.
The last card I wanted to show off today came from the same person who gave me the baseball card that I'll show off on Waxaholic at a later date.
Normally I avoid these manufactured letters..... but a gift is a gift. It now has an honoured place in my collection.
Thanks to everyone and as my pal Troll says, I love this hobby!

Freebies. Swag. Loot.
Awhile back my card shop owner handed me some swag. A nice treat to be sure. A couple of oddballs first. Apparently a company named 3D Popz is making............ "cards"?
This Beliveau is about 4"x6" and if you can't tell by the scan, is very bumpity. I guess that's where the 3D comes in.
Whereas the Carey Price is only 1"x2"... but again, in full relief and bumpity! Also included was this foil wrapper. I guess Panini was trying to copy Upper Deck's Hockey Card Day or something.... Not sure how many different cards on who's in the set, but maybe I could pull a Carey Price, or a PK Subban for the PC???
No. The answer is No. *sigh*
although pulling a Stamkos isn't a bad thing.
They were numbered POD 2 and POD 3... maybe I'll find the others one day.
Let's hear it for free stuff!!!!!
BTW, the 2012 version of Upper Deck's National Hockey Card Day is this Saturday. And for the first time, it occurs in both Canada AND the U.S.
Go get your free packs and start swapping!

not what I set out for, but it'll do...
Last week I went up to my LCS to say hi, grab a couple packs of Topps Magic Football, and some supplies. I said hi, he was sold out of Topps Magic Football, and I forgot the supplies. A typical day in my life.
But all was not lost. I tried out a pack of the new Donruss hockey, and grabbed 7 packs of 2011 OPC hockey, along with some commons singles for some TTM attempts. All of which I will show to you later.
What I've got for you now is something the owner gave me as I was leaving. He handed me a team set bag with the first 10 cards of this year's Upper Deck Biography of a Season. Apparently there are 30 cards in this set, to be released gradually throughout the season. Or something like that.
Anyways, here they are for your viewing pleasure.
Ovi and Sid, of course. It'd be better if Ovi's card just had a floating head on it...one of the twins and the kid in Tampa
Hey! A Montreal player! and some loser in orange....
not one, but two 'Hawks. Spare any change Patrick?
Taylor and some guy in Blue
There you have it, and you're all much better for it too.... I can tell.
